PRELIM TASK: Choosing our clip

        The reason why we decided as a group that this was a great clip to analyse was due to the fact that it used a large variety of camera angles alongside many complex horror elements such as the supernatural, which we found was an easy task as the supernatural is the unseen so therefore, we were able to recreate the scene with close attention to detail because a lot of the scare elements within this clip were behind closed doors such as the banging and the appearing of the doll. We chose to do the scene from 2:03-3:23 because it was easiest for us to film. This was key for our project as we only had six days to record and edit the clip and taking that into consideration, I believe we worked well as a group and productively.

          Furthermore, another reason for choosing this clip was the fact that the scene fitted perfectly with Sophia's house, the layout of the rooms and corridor. In addition to this, Sophia's house was the best place for the group to gather at as it was free which made recording a whole lot easier and it is close for myself and our group to go to. Moreover, the lighting for most of the clip was easy to obtain as we simply used our phone's flashlights and several room lights to create a dark effect as light and dark contrasted but the camera focus was on the dark which dimmed out a lot of the light. One problem we experienced with lighting was in the scene where Sophia through away the doll. We attempted to use the flash of the camera, however this did not sufficiently light her porch so they asked me to hold lamp near Sophia while Furthermore, another reason for choosing this clip was the fact that the scene fitted perfectly with Sophia's house, the layout of the rooms and corridor. In addition to this, Sophia's house was the best place for the group to gather at as it was free which made recording a whole lot easier and it is close for myself and our group to go to. This was another problem as Annamaria had to physically lean out the window as we did not have a drone for starters and we did not have any stand for the camera to stably be placed on.

Although it is not a copy of the original Annabelle doll, we applied makeup on the doll in order to create a horror effect to create anxiety within the audience. The reason we did not obtain an actual Annabelle doll was mainly because we had six days to complete this project and the prices online were rather expensive, ranging from £50.00-£100.00.

The fact that there was such as lack of time, we were unable to recreate the complex angles to the standard which we could have if we had say for example, a week more. Also, the fact that time was so short, it didn't allow us to order the actual replica of the Annabelle doll and obtain props which could have been used to produce more interest for the audience.

Response to brief:

Welcome to my blog for A2 media studies! This blog will capture the journey I'm going on where I'll be working in a group to produce a horror trailer, magazine front cover and a poster. I feel quite excited to be doing this because I really like the horror genre and enjoy watching horror films.

I saw my first horror film when I was about 6 years old with my brothers, the movie was called Child's play. I remember laughing instead of being scared of the characters in the film, and I found gore amusing which sounds really weird. I find most horror movies unrealistic so end up laughing at most of them, but I also love the feeling of tension building up because it brings on the emotion of fear.

I'm not really sure what I find frightening, most things intrigue me rather than scare me, for example the fear of the unknown. Within it lies mystery but rather than feeling frightened, it makes me want to know more.

I think all trailers interest me because I feel like they showcase the scenes leading up to the most scariest parts, which are the scenes most tension is built up. Watching horror trailers is fun to me because it makes the films look good and invite you to go and watch the films by giving a 'sneak peak' of the content. Horror film posters are also just as interesting to me. This is because they look cool when there is an ongoing flow between all three products, emphasizing the fact that they are for the same thing.

I feel like I need to explore more ideas to know what kind of vision I want my horror poster and trailer to be like. I very much like the idea of clowns, as they have been around the media quite a lot, with 'killer clowns' being seen in public and with the release of the new movie 'IT', it seems like a good idea. However I would more so want to create something original; something that's never been seen before but I know that will tale a lot of time and effort which I'm willing to put in.

This year I'm excited most by the production work that my group and I will do as I know the end result will be worth the work we will do leading up to/in the production, because we are aiming to put in as much effort as we can to make our products seem as realistic as possible. It'll be nice to see all our products tie in with one another in the premier that will take place when everyone has completed their work.
